Bodegas Contador made its first wine in a 100 year old cave which was bought by Benjamín Romeo, located underneath San Vicente de la Sonsierra´s castle in 1996, whilst he was at the same time buying vineyards.
Bodegas Contador owns more than 50 plots of land which have different soil types, microclimates, orientations and altitudes which are typical of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The vineyards are looked after in such a way that the highest quality is achieved.
After various years making his wines in a garage at his parent´s house, Benjamín Romeo inaugurated Bodegas Contador in 2008. The building is located on the slopes of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Rioja Alta and is surrounded by its own vineyards.
Bodegas Contador´s wines are made following the strictest quality control processes in order to express the essence of the vineyard. Large oak vats and barrels are used for the maceration, fermentation and ageing.
